“ I definitely used some of the litigation practice that we've done at The College of Law”
Solictor, Danny King Legal
My name is Cormac Foley, and I'm a solicitor at Danny King Legal, where we specialise in employment law. It's a very practical level of law where you are very hands on, dealing with clients on a face-to-face basis, and I really, really enjoy that.
I had my first mention in the Federal Court recently and I definitely used some of the litigation practice that we've done at The College of Law to help me through that. It gave me a bit of confidence that I knew what I was doing rather than getting thrown in the deep end.
I studied at The College of Law on-campus full-time. It really gets you to learn things on a practical level. For example, I had no experience speaking in a court setting where you are thrown in the deep end. During the course you prepare and have a go at cross-examining a witness and it was really enjoyable. You've got to got out of your comfort zone sometimes in legal studies and I think that has really helped me to build my confidence in that area.
Being able to draft legal documents, letters, affidavits, court documents on a practical level, that's not something you really do at uni which is really the theory side. The College of Law has really helped me to put some of that theory into practice.
