YOUR FIRST YEARS IN LAW

YOUR FIRST YEARS IN LAW

Real stories, practical advice and an inside look at life in law.

TWO LAWYERS. TWO PERSPECTIVES ON LIFE IN LAW.

Your first client interaction. Your first big deadline. Your first time realising there's a lot more to working in law than knowing the law.

Nobody starts their legal career knowing everything. Not even the lawyers who make it look easy.

Join James d'Apice and Stefanie Costi for a free webinar as they share what they wish they'd known starting out, the lessons they've learned and their advice for finding your feet in a legal workplace.

Whether you're completing work experience, preparing for your first legal job or already working in law, there's something here for you.

Stefanie Costi

Principal Lawyer, Stefanie Costi & Associates

Stefanie is a lawyer, speaker and writer. She founded Stefanie Costi & Associates in 2025 because she knows what it feels like to be broken by work. She supports people facing workplace bullying, harassment, discrimination, unfair dismissal, contract disputes, workplace investigations, whistleblowing issues, redundancies and senior employment challenges. She is also a survivor of workplace bullying. That lived experience is why she now helps people when their work becomes unsafe, unfair or overwhelming. Stefanie also delivers keynotes and speaks at conferences, corporate events and leadership forums to educate leaders and organisations on how to make workplaces safer in real, practical ways. Her purpose is simple: to protect people and help make workplaces better globally.

James d'Apice

Principal Lawyer, Gravamen

Admitted as a solicitor in 2008, and after a decade and a half working at other firms including as director of a national firm, James is the founder and principal lawyer of Gravamen, a leading boutique corporate law firm. Commercial litigation forms the backbone of James' practice however, over time, James has found himself increasingly providing advice on his clients' conduct outside of court. James' specialty is resolving disputes between co-owners, whether that resolution is by way of contested litigation or negotiated agreement. Practising in this area has required James to develop an expertise in the law relating to shareholder disputes, partnership disputes, and disputes between trustees and beneficiaries. James is the creator and presenter of 'Coffee and a Case Note', a series of online videos and podcast episodes that sees James summarise up-to-the-minute cases in his specialty area and present them to camera over a cup of coffee. His method combines approachability and rigour.
