The Legal Profession Admission Board (LPAB) has introduced new requirements for all Practical Legal Training (PLT) programs in New South Wales.
If you start your PLT after 1 March 2026 in NSW, your course will include:
Everything else about PLT - the skills you learn, the support you receive, and your pathway to admission - stays the same.
If you plan to start your PLT before 1 March 2026, you’ll continue in the current structure.
We’re currently designing a new range of NSW PLT course options that meet the LPAB’s rules and still give you the flexibility the College of Law is known for.
We’ll share the course formats soon - and you’ll be able to choose the option that best fits your life, schedule, and preferred learning style.
In the meantime, you can register your interest to make sure you’re one of the first to receive updates.
Our NSW PLT courses will change from 1 March 2026 to meet the LPAB requirements. This includes 15 days' on-campus workshops and 15 days' work experience
If you’d like to be the first to hear about:
…register your interest.
We’ll keep you in the loop so you can make the choice that suits you best.
If you start PLT in NSW on or after 1 March 2026, your course will include:
Everything else about PLT - including the skills you learn, the support you receive, and the recognition of the program for admission - will stay the same. The main change is how part of your learning is delivered.
At the College of Law, we’re developing a range of course formats so you’ll still have flexibility in how you complete your PLT, while meeting the new requirement.
We’ll announce the updated 2026 NSW course formats soon.
If you register your interest, we’ll email you as soon as the new courses are released, including dates, formats, and enrolment information.
Not at this stage. You have two pathways:
We’ll help you choose the right pathway once the new formats are ready.
You don’t need to do anything now.
We’ll contact you directly with your updated options once the new course formats are released.
Our team will guide you through your choices to make sure you continue your PLT without disruption.
The Legal Profession Admission Board (LPAB) has introduced this requirement. It applies to all PLT providers in New South Wales from 1 January 2026.
The Legal Profession Admission Board (LPAB) is the regulator for admission to the legal profession in New South Wales. They set the rules and requirements you need to meet before you can be admitted as a lawyer, including the structure of Practical Legal Training (PLT).
The College of Law is an approved PLT provider. This means we deliver PLT programs that meet the LPAB’s requirements and prepare you for admission. While the LPAB sets the rules, the College designs and delivers the courses that help you complete them.
Yes. The new rule is set by the LPAB, so every PLT provider in NSW must follow it.
These changes only apply to PLT courses delivered in New South Wales. If you enrol in another state or territory, your course will follow the current structure.
Our team is here to support you.
If you have questions about your situation or the upcoming changes, please reach out. We’re always happy to talk through your options.
