CAN YOU WORK WHILE DOING YOUR PLT?

CAN YOU WORK WHILE DOING YOUR PLT?

A guide to managing study and work.

CAN YOU WORK WHILE DOING YOUR PLT?

Yes. You can absolutely work while completing your Practical Legal Training (PLT).

At the College of Law, you can choose from full-time, balanced, or part-time study modes — all designed to fit around your job and other commitments. With flexible online coursework, evening workshops, and real support, you can move toward admission while continuing to work.

Here’s how it works, what to expect, and how to manage both study and work without burning out.

CAN I REALLY WORK WHILE STUDYING PLT?

Yes. Many students work part-time, or even full-time, while completing PLT. The key is choosing a course that suits your lifestyle.

At the College of Law, you can choose from:

  FULL-TIME BALANCED PART-TIME ON-CAMPUS
Duration 15 weeks 18 weeks 30 weeks 15 weeks
Workshops 5 days 10 days 5 days or 12 evenings 5 days in week one, then 3 days per week
Weekly Study Load 25–30 hours 20–25 hours 12–15 hours 25–30 hours
Weekly Task Load 2–3 tasks per week 1–2 tasks per week 1–2 tasks per week 2–3 tasks per week

Each course includes the same content, qualification, and support. You simply choose the pace that works for you.

How flexible is PLT at the College of Law?

Very. PLT at the College is delivered primarily online, with self-paced modules and no set class times. Here’s what that looks like:

  • No lectures, tutorials, or written exams
  • All learning materials online and accessible 24/7
  • Study when it suits you—weekdays, weekends, evenings
  • Milestones help you stay on track without needing to log in at specific times

You can plan your study around your life and other commitments.

How do the workshops work?

Workshops are the only scheduled attendance component of PLT, and they’re a key part of your practical learning experience.

Here’s what to expect:

  • Workshops are mandatory and interactive
  • They run either onsite or online, depending on your course
  • You’ll attend either five or ten full-day workshops (typically during business hours) OR
  • Choose an evening workshop format (12 online evening sessions) available in selected part-time courses

Workshops are where you put your skills into practice, through simulated interviews, negotiations, advocacy exercises and more.

Can I Do PLT If I Work Full-Time?

No problem. If you're working full-time and can’t take leave during the day, the evening workshop option is designed just for you.

  • Available in selected part-time courses
  • Held online across 12 scheduled evening sessions
  • Covers the same content and skills as daytime workshops
  • Lets you build skills without stepping away from your day job

This option is ideal for students balancing work, family, or other daytime commitments.
