If you’ve completed your PLT, specialist accreditation or other postgraduate legal study, you may already be partway through a Master of Laws (Applied Law), without realising it.
At the College of Law, Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) gives you credit for what you’ve already achieved, reducing the number of subjects you need to complete and saving you time and money.
Here’s how it works.
If you finished your Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice (PLT) with the College of Law in the last 10 years, you may be eligible for two elective subject credits toward your Master of Laws (Applied Law). That brings the total number of subjects down from eight to six.
You may also be eligible for RPL if you’ve completed:
RPL applies to the Master of Laws (Applied Law) program only.

They’ll talk you through your options and let you know what supporting documents you’ll need.
Using RPL can reduce the number of subjects you need to complete for your LLM. Fewer subjects means lower fees ($4150 per subject) and faster completion. Sometimes cutting your study load by up to two subjects if you’ve completed PLT with the College.
You may be eligible if you’ve completed your Practical Legal Training (PLT), specialist accreditation, the College’s Legal Practice Management Course or other postgraduate legal study such as Graduate Diplomas or Graduate Certificates.

No. There is no additional fee to have your previous study assessed for RPL. If approved, the credit is applied automatically to reduce your subject load.
