Legal research is evolving fast. Today’s lawyers must navigate a growing ecosystem of online databases, digital legislation platforms, and new AI-enhanced tools that are reshaping how information is found, assessed, and applied.

Join this one-hour webinar, Legal Research Bootcamp, led by Natalie Wieland, a seasoned educator and legal research specialist to build confidence in modern research techniques and understand how emerging AI tools can support sound legal reasoning.

You will learn:

  • Basic principles of online legal research
  • Identification and retrieval of relevant resources
  • Online case law — how to find and use it
  • Finding legislation efficiently
  • Secondary resources and how to access them
  • AI and potential risks
  • ChatGPT, Co-pilot, Gemini and Notebook LM

At the end of this live webinar, you will earn 1 CPD point.

Course Outline

By the end of this webinar, you will be able to:

  • Apply core principles of online legal research with greater accuracy and efficiency.
  • Locate and retrieve relevant cases and legislation using trusted digital resources.
  • Evaluate and use secondary sources to strengthen legal arguments.
  • Integrate AI tools into your research workflow while recognising associated risks.

Natalie Wieland

Natalie Wieland
Founder and CTO, Vidversity and Educator

Natalie is an educator who specialises in helping organisations create their own online training using interactive video.

After practising law for several years, she completed a postgraduate degree in IT and, in 1999, founded Bliss Consulting - delivering training and consulting services to law firms and legal professionals. This work led to the creation of cpdinteractive.com.au, a platform providing online professional development for lawyers across ethics, legal skills, and practice management.

With over 20 years’ experience in legal education, Natalie recognised her true passion lies in empowering others to teach. This led to the development of VidVersity, created to give educators a simple yet powerful way to build online learning without the need for a technical team. She now runs VidVersity with co-founder Liz Kollias.

Since 1999, Natalie has taught legal research skills within the legal industry for both private and government organisations. In 2006, she became a Legal Academic Skills Adviser at Melbourne Law School, where she designed and delivered skills-based programs for undergraduate and Master’s students. She continues to consult twice a year, teaching international Master’s students about the Australian legal system and helping them integrate into the program.

More recently, Natalie has embraced a part-time teaching role in the Diploma of Justice at Holmesglen TAFE — a role she deeply enjoys.

Please be aware that this webinar organised by the College of Law may be recorded for use on our websites, marketing materials and publications.
