An experienced solicitor working with local and national firms, and now barrister, Rebecca O’Brien is dedicated to supporting the next generation of lawyers through active mentoring and her long-term relationship with the College of Law.
O’Brien was a College of Law adjunct lecturer and has been a member of the Western Australian Chapter Board for six years. She also holds relevant governance experience with a number of professional organisations.
“Rebecca joined the College’s WA Chapter Board in 2019 and in her six years as a board member has demonstrated a deep interest in the development of the WA profession,” Former WA Chapter Board Chair, Alison Gaines, said. “She shows great judgement and insights into how the WA College can best serve the profession, including graduates entering our profession and also their employers and mid-career lawyers consolidating their professional and management skills.”
O’Brien’s governance skills have been practised in the Australian profession, she is a current member of the WA Bar Association Council, a Member of the Admissions Committee of the Legal Services Council, and a member of the Board of Directors of Francis Burt Chambers. She has previously held roles with Women Lawyers WA and the Council of the Law Society of WA.
“I’ve been involved with the College of Law since its early days in WA, both as a lecturer and member of the WA Chapter Board, and I’m honoured to be now stepping into the role of Chair,” incoming Chair, Rebecca O’Brien, said. “I can’t say enough about the huge contribution that Alison has made to the College over so many years – we are so grateful. I’m really looking forward to working with Executive Director (WA), Catherine Stokes, and the wonderful College team in my new capacity.”
We are delighted Rebecca O’Brien accepted the role of Chair and look forward to her leadership and guidance of the College of Law’s service to the Western Australian legal community.
