The College of Law’s Practical Legal Training is the leading program in Australia for law graduates preparing for admission to practice. 

This option involves participating in an initial 5 days of compulsory live online workshops followed by 29 weeks of online learning, with the support of a dedicated lecturer.

Completion of this program leads to the award of the Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice (GDLP).

Attendance

Participate in compulsory online workshops held from 9am – 5pm for the first five days of the program. A timetable of the workshops will be provided.

Attendance is recorded for the workshops.

The workshops are taught entirely online with no face-to-face attendance required.

Study Load

This is a part-time program.  

Students undertaking this option will need to devote at least 15 -20 hours per week during the coursework component of the program.

This option suits students who are working/have other commitments and are looking to balance study at the same time

 

 

Outline

The Practical Legal Training program is undertaken in three components -

  1. Coursework
  2. Work Experience
  3. Continuing Professional Education 
 
Complete all three components to  receive your Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice and be admitted as an Australian lawyer.

 

Entry Requirements

To enrol in this program you will need to:

  • Be a graduate in law or have qualified to graduate in law (received your final results), and
  • Your law qualification is Australian or equivalent
  • Be able to provide proof of completion of your law degree (unofficial transcript or completion letter is sufficient)

 

In Victoria, it may be possible to start earlier if you have completed all Priestley 11 core subjects of your law degree and have no more than two electives remaining in your law degree, double degree or equivalent qualification.

If you would like to start your Practical Legal Training early, you will need to seek approval from the Victorian Legal Admissions Board (VLAB). Please contact the Victorian Legal Admissions Board on 03 9604 2451 for further information.

You will have to provide evidence of your law qualification or early commencement letter from the admitting authority before the Practical Legal Training course start date to commence the program.

  • A copy of your Academic Transcript (unofficial transcript or completion letter is sufficient)
  • A current colour photo of your face
  • Unique Student Identifier (USI)

This program is subject to minimum numbers. The College of Law reserves the right to cancel the program where the level of enrolments does not reach the minimum numbers required to operate the program viably.
