The College of Law’s Practical Legal Training is the leading program in Australia for law graduates preparing for admission to practice. 

This course is only available for University of South Australia students and graduates.

It is designed for students who would like to start their Practical Legal Training in the final semester of law school. 

This option involves a two hour face-to-face induction and 5 days of onsite attendance, followed by 30 weeks of online interactive learning, with the support of a dedicated lecturer.

About This Course

The Practical Legal Training program is undertaken in three components -

  1. Coursework
  2. Work Experience
  3. Continuing Professional Education 

This is a hybrid part-time and full-time program with a timetable tailored to accommodate your university studies. 

Students undertaking this option will need to devote 17 hours per week to their PLT coursework while completing the final semester of their law degree.

Once you have completed your university exams, you will need to devote 30 – 35 hours per week towards your PLT coursework.

This option suits University of South Australia students who are looking to start their Practical Legal Training program while in the last semester of their law degree.




You will be required to attend face-to-face workshops on the following dates:

The remainder of your coursework, including assessments, will be delivered online.



Entry Requirements

To enrol in this program you will need to:

  • Be a graduate in law or have qualified to graduate in law (completed your final exam), and
  • Your law qualification is Australian or equivalent
  • Be able to provide proof of completion of your law degree (unofficial transcript or completion letter is sufficient)


In South Australia, it may be possible to start earlier if you have completed all Priestley 11 core subjects of your law degree and have no more than two electives remaining in your law degree, double degree or equivalent qualification.

  2. A passport-sized current colour photo (does not need to be an official passport photo)
  3. If you are not an Australian citizen, evidence of your status  

You will also need to have the following at hand:

  1. CHESSN (Commonwealth Higher Education Student Support Number) if you have one  
  2. Your student number relating to your law degree / Diploma of Law / JD or equivalent.
  3. Your Tax File Number if paying via FEE-Help (student loan)

After completing the online application you will receive a confirmation email of your application – your enrolment is not complete at this stage.

We will email you once your application has been processed and your enrolment confirmed. This email will contain information about orientation, the onsite week and the learning portal.
