The College of Law’s Practical Legal Training is the leading program in Australia for law graduates preparing for admission to practice.

This option involves 5 days of compulsory onsite workshops followed by 29 weeks of online learning, with the support of a dedicated lecturer.

Due to the Good Friday Public Holiday on 7 April 2023, the onsite workshops will be held:

  • Monday 3 April - Thursday 6 April 2023
  • Friday 14 April 2023 OR Friday 12 May 2023 (Held via Zoom) 

Completion of this program leads to the award of the Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice (GDLP).

Attendance

Participate in compulsory onsite workshops held between 9am – 5pm for the first five days of the program. A timetable of the workshops will be provided.

Study Load

This option a part-time program.  

Students undertaking this program will need to devote at least 15 -20 hours per week during the coursework component of the program.

This option suits students who are working/have other commitments and are looking to balance study at the same time.  

 

 

Structure

The Practical Legal Training program is undertaken in three components:

  1. Coursework
  2. Work Experience
  3. Continuing Professional Education 

 

Complete all three components to  receive your Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice and be admitted as an Australian lawyer.

Entry Requirements

To enrol in this program you will need to:

  • Be a graduate in law or have qualified to graduate in law (completed your final exam), and
  • Your law qualification is Australian or equivalent

 

In Queensland, it may be possible to start earlier if you have completed all Priestley 11 core subjects of your law degree and have no more than two electives remaining in your law degree, double degree or equivalent qualification.

To seek approval, please complete the online enrolment form for the Practical Legal Training course you would like to undertake. Once this has been received, The College of Law will email you and the Queensland Law Society a conditional offer of enrolment. After you have received your conditional offer of enrolment, please contact the Queensland Law Society on 1300 367 757 to complete the process.

To enrol, simply complete the online enrolment form.

You will need to have the following information ready to upload:

 
  • A copy of your Academic Transcript (unofficial transcript or completion letter is sufficient)
  • A current colour photo of your face
  • Unique Student Identifier (USI)

This program is subject to minimum numbers. The College of Law reserves the right to cancel the program where the level of enrolments does not reach the minimum numbers required to operate the program viably.
