The College of Law’s Practical Legal Training is the leading program in Australia for law graduates preparing for admission to practice. 

This option currently involves participation in 5 days of onsite workshops at the beginning of the program, followed by 3 days a week of attendance for 14 weeks.

Attendance

Participate in compulsory onsite workshops for the first five days of the program from 9am-5pm followed by 3 days onsite attendance a week, 9am-3pm. A timetable of the workshops will be provided.

Study Load 

This is a full-time program.  

Students undertaking this program will need to devote at least 30 -35 hours per week during the coursework component of the program. This option suits students who are looking for the quickest path to admission.  

We recommend that students working full-time do not undertake the full-time program. 
 

 

International Students and Lawyers

We can help you apply for an 11 month visa to complete the PLT program. 

This is a CRICOS approved PLT program (CRICOS course code 069734C). If you apply for this program, we can provide you with an eCOE which will allow you to obtain a student visa.
 

 

Structure

The Practical Legal Training program is undertaken in three components:
  1. Coursework
  2. Work Experience
  3. Continuing Professional Education 

 

Complete all three components to  receive your Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice and be admitted as an Australian lawyer.

 

Entry Requirements

To enrol in this program you will need to:

  • Be a graduate in law or have qualified to graduate in law (completed your final exam), and
  • Your law qualification is Australian or equivalent, and
  • Be able to provide proof of completion of your law degree by the Practical Legal Training course census date (unofficial transcript or completion letter is sufficient)

 

In New South Wales, it may be possible to start earlier if you have completed all Priestley 11 core subjects of your law degree and have no more than two electives remaining in your law degree, double degree or equivalent qualification.

If you would like to start your Practical Legal Training early, you will need to seek approval from the Legal Profession Admission Board (LPAB.)

This program is subject to minimum numbers. The College of Law reserves the right to cancel the program where the level of enrolments does not reach the minimum numbers required to operate the program viably.

Please be advised that your Practical Legal Training program may change in response to the impacts of COVID-19. Rest assured, you will still be able to complete your Practical Legal Training, however some of the program details may change.
