Graduates, prize winners honoured at the Spring 2019 Academic Awards Ceremony

The College of Law was proud to celebrate the achievements of its Postgraduate Applied Law Programs at the Spring 2019 Academic Awards Ceremony on 18 November 2019 at the Strangers’ Dining Room in NSW Parliament House, Sydney. 

Over 100 graduates of the Postgraduate Applied Law Programs were conferred their degrees and diplomas. These awards included the Master of Laws (Applied Law), Master of Applied Law (Family Law), Graduate Diplomas of Applied Law and Graduate Diploma of Family Dispute Resolution Practice (FDRP).

Caryn Sandler, Partner & Chief Knowledge and Innovation Officer, Gilbert + Tobin, gave the formal address for the evening. 

“It was an honour to hear from Caryn Sandler on the evening,” said Dr. John McGill, Executive Director of Practitioner Education at The College of Law. “I believe I speak for the entire College as I express my gratitude for Caryn’s time and message to our graduates on the evening. We are also thrilled to celebrate her recent win of ‘Innovator of the Year’ in the 2020 Women in Law Awards.”

The Paul & Paul – Sandra Paul Memorial Best Graduating Masters Student Prize – Family Law

Awarded to Alexandra Brand, Presented by Hugo Paul, Paul & Paul Solicitors

The Paul & Paul - Sandra Paul Memorial Prize for Best Graduating Masters Student in the Family Law program has been generously donated by Paul & Paul Lawyers, in the name of the late Sandra Paul, a well-known and respected family lawyer. Sandra Paul was admitted to practice in 1984 after obtaining a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of New South Wales.

She worked principally in Family Law – first as a Senior Associate at law firm Clayton Utz (YOUTZ) before commencing a partnership practice with the firm Briggs Paul, later becoming Briggs Paul Dowding and then to the present day Paul & Paul Lawyers. Sandra was known for her dedication to the law and her commitment to Family Law.
