Work Experience

About the Work Experience Component

The Work Experience Component is the second of three components that must be completed to receive your Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice (GDLP) from The College. Work experience gives you the opportunity to gain insight into working in a legal environment and apply your legal knowledge and skills to real-life situations.  It also gives a context to your PLT coursework. For the purposes of completing your GDLP, work experience must occur in the delivery of legal services and be supervised by an experienced legal practitioner who meets the requirements of the Work Experience Rules. While it is your responsibility to find work experience, The College provides assistance by:

  • Providing an Online Jobs Noticeboard on which job vacancies are advertised
  • Maintaining an Employment Register of students seeking work experience which is distributed to interested prospective employers
  • Working within the industry to source placements, as well as promoting The College and its students to the legal profession.
Please read the information on the following pages and if you have any questions then please contact our Work Experience Liaison Officer, Jayne Watt, at jawatt@collaw.edu.au or call 02 9965 7025.
