Legal Author and Commentator
Tony Cahill was admitted to practice in 1981. After 13 years with a medium-sized city law firm, Tony commenced practice on his own account at Chatswood. In July 2002, Tony commenced a ‘sabbatical’ from private practice to concentrate primarily on legal education and writing.
He is a member of the Law Society’s Property Law and Environmental, Planning and Development Committees. He has been a member of the Re‑Draft Committees for the editions of the Contract for the Sale of Land since 1992, and the editions of the Contract for the Sale of Business since 2000. In 1995, Tony completed the Property Agency TAFE course which was then the most usual educational qualification for holders of licences under the former Property, Stock and Business Agents Act 1941.
He was a co-author with Russell Cocks and Paul Gibney of the first NSW edition of 1001 Conveyancing Answers, and is currently the co-author with Gary Newton of Conveyancing Service New South Wales and Annotated Conveyancing and Real Property Legislation New South Wales, both published by LexisNexis Butterworths.
Tony is also the General Advisor on the recently released online product LexisNexis Practical Guidance – Property Law Module.
Tony is a part-time lecturer at the Sydney and Northern Sydney Institutes of TAFE in various law subjects.

Catherine is a partner in the Sydney Property team of Mills Oakley Lawyers. Admitted in 1994, she is a Law Society accredited specialist in property law who loves property law and working with all those in and associated with the industry.
Catherine has worked with a number of leading Australian and Asian property owners and has considerable experience in: acquisition and sale of commercial, industrial and retail properties; leasing; off-the-plan sales; mortgages and advising on issues arising with the ownership and management of property assets. Her leasing expertise includes: stream leasing; leasing of retail, commercial, industrial and strata title properties, special purpose leases and environmentally sustainable (or green) leasing.
Catherine understands that many property transactions are the start of a long term relationship between the parties. She is expert in ensuring that her clients’ needs are met and desired outcomes are obtained whilst maintaining a strong relationship.
Catherine is a member of the Property Law Advisory Committee to the Law Society Accredited Specialist Program and is the author of the Leasing and Land Tax Modules for LexisNexis Practical Legal Guidance.

Anthony is one of Sydney’s leading retail lease lawyers. He is Principal Solicitor at Herro Solicitors. He acts for clients in drafting, advising and negotiating leases and in resolving lease disputes. He possesses an in depth knowledge of Retail Leases Legislation (including the Retail Leases Act) and in property law in relation to leases. He has extensive experience in all aspects of retail and commercial leasing- including complex lease negotiations and resolution of lease disputes. His articles have been published in the New South Wales Law Society Journal and on international Law Society websites.
Anthony is appointed by parties under expert dispute resolution clauses in leases to act as an expert to determine retail lease disputes.
Anthony’s advice is sought by Government Ministers and Government bodies to advise on proposed amendments to retail lease legislation. Anthony actively contributes and appears at Government enquiries on retail leasing.
LEISHA DE ABOITIZ
Leisha is a partner at Massons, a commercial property law firm. She has 15 years of legal experience, and has specialised as a commercial property lawyer for more than 12 years. Leisha practises in all aspects of commercial property law, but has a particular specialisation in complex titling, including long-term leasehold arrangements, stratum subdivision and strata management and compliance. Leisha has worked on several major complex strata developments including the iconic Jones Bay Wharf and Darling Island, Sydney.
Leisha currently sits on the Strata Chapter Committee for the Real Estate Institute of NSW. In this capacity, Leisha has presented on part 10 (Strata Renewal Process) of the new Strata Schemes Development Act (NSW) 2015 across regional NSW as part of the “New Strata Law” roadshow jointly hosted by Fair Trading, Strata Community Australia and the Real Estate Institute of NSW. She has also recently been involved in government consultation (on behalf of the REINSW) on the draft Strata Schemes Development Regulations (due for release imminently). Leisha regularly presents externally and publishes articles (eg Legalwise Seminars, REI Journal, Domain Chinese etc) and is also a member of the Property Funds Association of Australia.
Leisha is also experienced in sales and acquisitions, development, commercial leasing, real estate aspects of corporate transactions, and distressed property sales. She has experience acting for clients from various sectors, including property and investment funds, government departments, not-for-profit entities, receivers and liquidators, banks and real estate developers.
Partner, Holding Redlich
Vanya is a real estate lawyer with over 16 years’ experience. He acts for some of Australia’s most significant property developers including the Frasers Property Group, Lend Lease and Billbergia.
Vanya advises development clients in relation to the whole developer lifecycle, including advising and negotiating the acquisition of development sites, managing the due diligence process, advising in relation to the title structure of proposed developments, managing off the plan sales, acting on the finance due diligence, providing legal sign off regarding qualifying pre-sales and managing the settlements of the end product.
Vanya is also an expert on the Federal Government’s foreign investment regulatory regime and has prepared and managed countless Foreign Investment Review Board (FIRB) applications over the past decade.
Vanya is the head of Holding Redlich’s off the plan sales team and has successfully managed a number of high volume sales launches (both on site and off site) and settlements.
