What the subject is about
Criminal practice requires highly developed skills of analysis and judgment. Whether prosecuting or defending in a criminal matter, an individual's liberty may be at stake and this may place significant pressure on the lawyer.
The subject covers:
an understanding of the law, rules, practices and procedures, and
the ability to apply fundamental processes
in criminal practice which will enable you to act competently for clients in this area.
Unit 2 will be conducted in an onsite workshop. Before you attend the workshop complete Unit 1 and the reading for the workshop set out in Unit 2.
Subject aim
The aim is to assist you to become competent in the following elements of criminal practice:
Providing advice
Applying for bail.
Making pleas.
Representing a client in minor matters.
Preparing cases for trial.
