What the subject is about

Consumer law practice involves:  

• advising clients about consumer law matters
• advising clients on the relevant law and procedures, and
• resolving disputes about consumer matters through the court system or in alternative dispute resolution processes.

This subject covers the fundamental processes in consumer law practice, which will enable you to act competently for clients in matters, and includes: 

• identifying the situation as one to which consumer protection legislation applies
• identifying relevant legislation and remedies available 
• conducting dispute resolution procedures in the relevant forum or employing alternative dispute resolution processes
• documenting settlements.

The aim is to assist you to become competent in conducting consumer law matters.
