Practical Legal Training Program - Western Australia

On 4 March 2009, the Legal Practice Board of Western Australia approved The College of Law Western Australian course enabling direct admission in WA.

We recommend, if you have completed your academic law degree, and want to work in Western Australia as a lawyer, that the Western Australia PLT Program is the most suitable way to meet the LPB’s practical legal training requirements.

The Western Australia PLT Program leads to direct admission in the following Supreme Courts:

  • Western Australia
  • Australian Capital Territory
  • New South Wales
  • Northern Territory
  • Queensland, and
  • Victoria

How is the program offered?

Where are the onsite skills sessions held?

Program Components

The Western Australia PLT Program consists of three program components:

  1. the Coursework Component
  2. the Work Experience Component, and
  3. the Continuing Professional Development Component

Please note that for the Work Experience Component, Western Australia students have a customised Western Australia Application for Approval of Work Experience Placement document as well as a Western Australia Work Experience Declaration Form


Coursework Component

The Coursework Component is designed to enable you to develop competency in a number of practice areas and professional skills to the level expected on admission as a legal practitioner. More

Continuing Professional Development Component

The final component of the Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice is comprised of online seminars and a Workbook Journal. More

Work Experience Component

The Work Experience Component involves you undertaking 75 days of work experience in the legal services industry under the supervision of an experienced legal practitioner. More
