Practical Legal Training Program - Victoria

In Victoria, the Council for Legal Education - Board of Examiners (BOE) offers two paths to be admitted to the Supreme Court of Victoria:

We recommend, if you have completed your academic law degree, and want to work in Victoria as a lawyer, that the Victoria PLT Program is the most suitable way to meet the Board of Examiner’s practical legal training requirements.

The Victoria PLT Program leads to direct admission in the following Supreme Courts:

  • Victoria
  • Australian Capital Territory
  • New South Wales
  • Northern Territory, and
  • Queensland

How is the program offered?

Where are the onsite skills sessions held?

The onsite skills sessions of the online coursework are held at our Victoria campus at Little Collins Street, Melbourne, and in other local training facilities. For more information, please see: Victoria Campus

Program Components

The Victoria PLT Program consists of three program components:

  1. the Coursework Component
  2. the Work Experience Component, and
  3. the Continuing Professional Development Component

Coursework Component

The Coursework Component is designed to enable you to develop competency in a number of practice areas and professional skills to the level expected on admission as a legal practitioner. More

Continuing Professional Development Component

The final component of the Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice is comprised of online seminars and a Workbook Journal. More

Work Experience Component

The Work Experience Component involves you undertaking 75 days of work experience in the legal services industry under the supervision of an experienced legal practitioner. More
