Administrative Law Practice
What is this subject about?
Administrative law practice involves:
- advising clients about issues arising from administrative law matters
- advising clients on the relevant law and procedures, and
- resolving disputes about administrative law matters through the court or tribunal system or in alternative dispute resolution processes.
The aim of this subject is to assist you to become competent in the following elements of administrative law practice:
- conducting administrative law matters
- initiating and responding to applications
- representing the client.
What will I learn and what skills will I have the opportunity to practise?
This subject covers the fundamental processes in administrative law practice which will enable you to act competently for clients in matters, and includes:
- identifying the appropriate legislation
- acting in applications under freedom of information legislation
- acting in applications for review of administrative decisions
- conducting hearings in the relevant forum (or employing alternative dispute resolution procedures)
- documenting settlements

Assessment in this subject will be based on:
- assessment of court appearance (60%)
- assessment of file note of advice (40%)
