Islamic Finance - Challenges and Opportunities
The size of the Islamic finance industry worldwide is estimated to be around US$822 billion. Earlier this year, the Australian government released detailed information on Islamic finance; a step in the direction of establishing Australia as a financial services hub. Now is the time to discover what you should be looking at at this point in order to understand and prepare for the imminent boom of Shariah compliant banking and investment.

Chaaban Omran is the current Chief Executive Officer for Crescent Investments Australasia, Australia's first Wealth Management Company focussed on Shariah Compliant products and services, specialising in Australian Equity and Property Funds.
Chaaban is the former Managing Director of Muslim Community Co-operative of Australia who submitted a paper to the Johnson Report on the future of Islamic Finance in Australia.
Chaaban has worked in senior roles at Perpetual, MLC and AMP with expertise in superannuation and business systems.
He is a fellow of Australian Institute of Management and National Institute of Accountants.
Alex Regan is a partner based in the Sydney office of Mallesons Stephen Jaques. He specialises in projects in the energy, infrastructure and resources sectors, acquisition finance, Islamic finance and debt restructuring transactions across the Asia-Pacific region. Alex is admitted as a solicitor in both New South Wales and England, as well as to the New York State Bar.
Prior to joining Mallesons in 2008, Alex was based in the London, New York and Singapore offices of Shearman & Sterling and the Hong Kong office of Paul, Hastings, Janofsky & Walker. He has acted for borrowers, sponsors, banks, export credit agencies and multilateral agencies in relation to various development projects, financings, restructurings and acquisitions in the energy, infrastructure and resources sectors in Australia, Asia and the Middle East.
