The College of Law has today received the Award for Outstanding Achievement (Best Program) from the International Association for Continuing Legal Education (ACLEA) at a ceremony held in New York City. The College is the first Australian organisation to receive the honour.
The Award for Outstanding Achievement is one of only 18 annual awards granted to competitors representing more than 300 organisations around the globe and was accepted by Una Doyle, Director of Continuing Professional Education, on behalf of The College of Law.

The College was acknowledged for its “Judges Series 2010” program, which involved a number of lectures being given by eminent judges to address key areas of court practice. The Series was well received by the Sydney legal profession with one Judge from the Supreme Court of NSW and one Judge from the Federal Court of Australia present at each evening. The program was also unique as it was held at the recently refurbished Federal Court in Sydney with access to the new state-of-the-art Ceremonial Court.
Ms Doyle said that receiving the Award for Outstanding Achievement was incredibly significant to The College of Law. “We are extremely grateful and honoured to be included in these awards. ACLEA’s annual awards are highly competitive, so receiving recognition for these projects represents the highest level of achievement and showcases our work in these important areas of legal education,” she commented. “The Award encourages and inspires me to continue developing such programs, and is also a fantastic and well-deserved boost for my staff and volunteers who dedicate their time and enthusiasm to ensure the programs are a success,” she continued.
In her role as Director of CPE, Ms Doyle is responsible for post admission training and education within The College of Law, drawing on vast previous experience from both within and outside the College.
“I am truly inspired in my role by the knowledge that our work in this area makes a real difference to the quality of legal practice, and that in turn benefits the community as a whole,” she said.
ACLEA seeks to improve the performance of Continuing Legal Education professionals through leadership, education and development, and consists of members from all over the world, including the United States and Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, Africa, and Mexico, making the organisation an important source of information on Continuing Legal Education today.
Ms Doyle accepted the award at ACLEA’s Annual Meeting in New York City on July 27th.
