The governing body of The College of Law is the Board of Directors.

Current Directors are listed below:

  • Ms June McPhie (Deputy Chair)
  • Mr Hugh Macken (Solicitor)
  • Mr Michael Tidball (CEO, The Law Society of NSW)

Under the Articles of Association, up to three members of the Board of Directors are nominees of external organisations. At present, Justice Hall is the nominee of the New South Wales Legal Profession Admission Board and Professor Triggs is the nominee of the Council of New South Wales Law Deans.

The Board of Directors represents a blend of skills and experience in a range of areas relevant to the operation of The College of Law. The Board has responsibility for the corporate governance of The College of Law, and for the objects of the company as detailed in the Articles and Memorandum of Association. Accordingly, the Board has ultimate responsibility for the conduct of courses.

Pursuant to the Articles of Association, the Board can delegate any of its duties. The Board has delegated oversight of curriculum and the making of academic policy to The College of Law Academic Board (COLAB), but retains ultimate authority under the Articles and Memorandum of Association to make academic decisions. Since the inception of the COLAB, the Board has seen fit to limit its academic decision making to:

  • appointing members of the COLAB
  • determining whether to go ahead with the development of new courses
  • agreeing upon changes to the academic committee structure, and
  • otherwise endorsing the policy recommendations of the COLAB
